Why Homeowners Choose Steel Siding
- Impact resistance. Steel shrugs off hail, stray baseballs and lawn-mower stones that crack cold vinyl.
- No rot, no insects. There is no wood fiber to swell, soften or attract pests.

Vesta Steel Siding
We install Vesta steel siding. It is manufactured in Walker, Michigan, and was designed for homes rather than farm buildings.
Profile and orientation
Vesta uses a clean, horizontal plank profile inspired by shiplap, with narrow boards and a crisp shadow line. The same panels can also be installed vertically for a board-and-batten style look on gables, entries or a full modern farmhouse exterior.
Colors: woodgrain and solid
Vesta comes in two color families. The woodgrain finishes, in tones from light driftwood to dark espresso, give you the warmth of cedar or stained wood without sealing or staining. The solid colors cover classic whites and grays through deep blues and charcoals. A popular combination is solid-color lap siding on the main walls with a woodgrain accent at the entry or gables.
Finish
The panels carry a PVDF (Kynar) architectural paint finish, the same family of coatings used on commercial metal buildings because it holds color in strong sun.
Trim and accessories
Vesta is a complete system with matching starter strip, corner posts, J-channel, flashing and trim coil, so corners, windows and rooflines are finished in the same metal and color as the walls.
Steel vs. Vinyl vs. Aluminum vs. Fiber Cement
- Vinyl siding is the lowest-cost option and never needs painting, but it is softer, can crack in cold weather and moves the most with temperature.
- Aluminum siding was common on Metro Detroit homes built from the 1950s to the 1970s. It is lighter and dents more easily than steel, and the painted finish chalks over time. Most aluminum homes today are being repaired, painted or re-sided rather than re-clad in new aluminum.
- James Hardie fiber cement is heavier, very durable and has a painted-wood look with deep shadow lines. It is also non-combustible. It needs repainting over its life, where steel’s factory finish does not.
- Steel sits at the premium end on cost, with the strongest impact resistance and the least upkeep.

How We Install Steel Siding
1. Measure and plan
At your free in-home estimate we measure every wall, note windows, doors and rooflines, and talk through profiles, orientation and color families that suit your roof, brick or stone.
2. Remove old siding and check the walls
Where the scope calls for tear-off, old siding comes off and we inspect the sheathing. Soft or damaged wood is shown to you and repaired before anything new goes on.
3. House wrap and flashing
Every siding install includes house wrap and flashing. The wall is wrapped with a weather-resistant barrier, and windows, doors and roof-to-wall joints are flashed so any water that gets behind the siding drains out instead of into the framing.
4. Straight, flat walls
Steel shows wall imperfections less than thin vinyl, but a straight starting line and level courses are still what separate a sharp job from an average one. Panels are fastened so they can move slightly with temperature.
5. Metal trim, soffit and fascia
Corners, window and door trim, and rooflines are finished with matching metal. Many steel siding projects also include new soffit and fascia so the whole exterior is maintenance-free.
6. Cleanup and walkthrough
We clean up the site and walk the house with you before calling the job done.

Published figures for metal siding in Michigan vary widely. One Southeast Michigan remodeler lists $5 to $23 per square foot installed, and a 2026 Michigan siding cost guide cites $16 to $30 per square foot for metal. Steel Siding FAQ
Does steel siding rust?
Residential steel siding is galvanized or metallic-coated and then painted, so rust is not a concern on intact panels. Scratches that reach bare metal and field-cut edges should be touched up or protected, which is part of a proper install.
Is steel siding noisy in the rain?
Siding is fastened tight to a solid wall with a weather barrier behind it, so it does not drum the way an open metal roof on a pole barn can. Most homeowners notice no difference from other siding.
Can metal roofing panels be used as siding on a house?
Exposed-fastener ribbed panels are common on barns and garages. On a home, purpose-made residential steel siding like Vesta gives you concealed fasteners, house-scale profiles and trim designed for windows and corners. If you like a standing-seam look, ask us about pairing it with a metal roof.
Will steel siding interfere with cell phone or Wi-Fi signal?
Metal cladding can reduce signal slightly in some homes, the same as foil-faced insulation or brick can. Most homes see little change, but if reception is already weak where you live, it is worth knowing.
Can steel siding be installed vertically?
Yes. Vesta panels can run horizontally or vertically, and many homes mix both.
Does steel siding need painting?
No regular repainting is needed. The factory finish is designed to hold color, and an occasional rinse keeps it clean.
