Full-frame replacement
A full-frame installation removes the window down to the rough opening. That lets us inspect and repair framing, insulate the gaps around the new unit, and flash it properly to the wall. It costs more and takes longer, but on older farmhouses with rotted sills or badly out-of-square openings it is often the only installation that will perform well. It also pairs naturally with new siding, if that is on your list.

Window Styles That Suit Lapeer-Area Homes

Energy Efficiency for Open-Country Winters
A house with no neighbors to block the wind feels drafts more than a house in a tight subdivision. Replacing leaky single-pane or failing double-pane windows is one of the most noticeable comfort upgrades you can make out here.
When you compare windows, look at the NFRC label. The U-factor measures how much heat escapes, so lower is better in winter. Michigan falls in ENERGY STAR’s Northern climate zone, and under the Version 7.0 criteria, windows in that zone need a U-factor of 0.22 or lower. Not every window a homeowner is quoted meets that, so ask to see the numbers. Low-E coatings and gas-filled insulated glass are how modern windows get there, and triple-pane glass is worth asking about when you want the best winter performance.
Remember that the window is only half the job. On older homes, the gaps between the window and the rough framing are often uninsulated. Sealing and insulating those gaps should be part of any installation, and it is part of ours.
