Insulated vinyl siding

Our Vinyl Siding Installation Process
1. Free in-home estimate
We measure the house, look at the condition of the existing siding and walls, and talk through colors, profiles and trim. You get a written estimate with the scope of work spelled out.
2. Choosing colors and profiles
We bring samples so you can see colors in daylight against your roof, brick or stone. Darker colors and some profiles are priced differently, and we will explain those differences.
3. Removing old siding and checking the walls
We remove the old siding where the scope calls for it and inspect the sheathing underneath. Any soft or rotted wood we find is shown to you and repaired before new siding goes on.
4. Weather barrier and flashing
The wall is wrapped with a weather-resistant barrier, and windows and doors are flashed so water that gets behind the siding drains out instead of into the wall.
5. Installing the siding the right way
Vinyl has to be hung, not pinned. Nails go in the center of the slots and are left slightly loose so each panel can move as temperatures change. Panels are spaced correctly at corners and trim so they can expand in summer without buckling. This is where most vinyl siding problems start, and it is where we take our time.
6. Trim, cleanup and walkthrough
We finish corners, windows, soffit and fascia, clean up the site, and walk the house with you before we call the job done.

Caring for Vinyl Siding in Michigan
- Rinse it once or twice a year with a garden hose and soft brush. Skip high-pressure washing aimed up under the panels.
- Keep grills and fire pits away from the walls; vinyl can warp from direct heat.
- Watch for reflected sunlight from neighboring windows, which can distort vinyl in some cases.

How long does vinyl siding installation take?
It depends on the size of the house, how much old siding comes off, and how much trim work is included. We give you an expected schedule with your estimate.
Can vinyl siding be installed over my old siding?
Sometimes, but we usually recommend removing it. Taking the old siding off lets us find and fix rotted sheathing and install a proper weather barrier and flashing.
Is insulated vinyl siding worth it?
Insulated vinyl costs more, but it is stiffer, lies flatter on uneven walls, and adds some insulation. Whether the extra cost makes sense depends on your house and goals; we can price both so you can compare.
Will dark vinyl siding fade or warp?
Modern dark vinyl colors are made to resist fading better than older products, but they absorb more heat. Correct installation, with room for expansion, matters even more with dark colors.
Why does some vinyl siding look wavy?
Waviness usually comes from uneven walls underneath, thin panels, or siding that was nailed too tight so it cannot move. Good wall prep, thicker or insulated panels, and proper nailing prevent it.
Vinyl or James Hardie siding: which should I choose?
Vinyl costs less and never needs painting. James Hardie fiber cement costs more, has a thicker, painted-wood look, and is non-combustible. We install both and can quote them side by side.
