New siding changes how a house looks from the street more than almost any other project, and it is one of the best ways to seal up an older home against Michigan weather. Rock Solid Exteriors has installed siding across Macomb County since 1997, and our office sits on Hayes Road in Clinton Township. When you call us, you are calling a neighbor who is 5 to 15 minutes away.

Siding Options We Install
- Vinyl siding from Mastic and CertainTeed, in multiple profiles and a wide range of colors. It is the most popular choice for its price and low upkeep.
- James Hardie fiber cement siding, including its HZ5 line built for freeze-thaw climates. It has the look of painted wood without the rot.
- Metal siding in steel and aluminum for a clean, durable exterior.
- Cedar shake-look siding that gives gables and accents a shake appearance without real wood maintenance.
- Versetta Stone and cultured stone accents for entryways, column wraps and wainscoting.
- Soffit, fascia and trim wrap in aluminum or vinyl to finish the roofline and windows.
- Siding repair for storm-damaged, cracked or loose panels, and full siding replacement.
- Seamless gutters and gutter guards to keep water off your new siding.

Siding in Clinton Township: What We See on Local Homes
Houses from the 1960s through the 1990s
Clinton Township’s 2019 Master Plan, drawing on SEMCOG and census survey data, shows that about 16,300 housing units were built from 1960 to 1979 and about 16,400 from 1980 to 1999. Construction peaked during those decades, and the township is now home to more than 100,000 people, the most of any township in Michigan.
That timeline tells us a lot before we even arrive. Homes from the 1960s and 1970s can still have aluminum siding that has chalked, dented and faded, or a first round of vinyl that was installed over it years later. Houses from the 1980s and 1990s frequently have early builder-grade vinyl that has grown brittle, lost its color on the sunny side and pulled loose along the top edge. It is also common to see ranches and colonials that pair brick on the front with siding on the sides, back or second story.
Freeze-thaw and moisture behind the siding
Michigan’s winters cycle above and below freezing over and over. Water that gets behind siding at poorly flashed windows, doors and roof edges soaks into sheathing, freezes, thaws and slowly rots the wood. When old siding comes off, it is common to find soft spots under old window trim or where a gutter has overflowed for years. Replacing damaged wood, wrapping the walls in a weather-resistant barrier and flashing openings properly is what keeps the new siding from hiding the same problem.
They replaced wood that needed it rather than just covering.

Wind, cold and impact
Cold makes vinyl less flexible, so a stray baseball, snowblower chute or ice falling from the roof can crack older panels in January. Strong summer storms can also unzip loose courses of siding, especially on the windward side of a house. Thicker vinyl, proper nailing and fiber cement or metal in high-impact areas all help.
Our Siding Process, From Estimate to Cleanup

- Design together. You pick your siding type, profile, color, trim and any stone accents, and we help you see how they work with your roof and brick.
- Written estimate. The scope is itemized, including tear-off, wood repair, house wrap, soffit, fascia and gutters, with financing options available.
- Permits and ordering. We apply for any permits Clinton Township requires and order your materials.

Clinton Township Siding FAQs
My Clinton Township house still has its original aluminum siding. Can you put vinyl or Hardie right over it?
In most cases, removing old aluminum or worn vinyl is the better approach than covering it. Taking it off lets us see and repair any soft sheathing or rotted wood, install a proper weather-resistant barrier and flash windows and doors correctly. Your estimate will spell out the tear-off and any wood repair we expect.
What siding holds up best to Michigan winters?
Quality vinyl, James Hardie fiber cement and metal siding all perform well here when installed correctly. James Hardie’s HZ5 products are engineered specifically for climates with freezing temperatures, big seasonal temperature swings, snow and ice. Vinyl is the most budget-friendly and low maintenance. We will compare them honestly for your house and budget.
Can you replace just the siding on the back and sides of my brick-front colonial?
Yes. Many homes in the township combine brick on the front with siding on the sides, rear or second story. We can replace the sided areas and choose a color and profile that works with your brick.
Do you replace soffit, fascia and gutters with the siding?
Yes, and it often makes sense to. Soffit and fascia sit right where the siding meets the roofline, and doing them together gives you matching trim and one clean finish. We also install seamless gutters.
How far in advance should I schedule a siding project?
Call as early as you can, especially for spring and summer. Winter weather can slow siding work, so planning ahead gives you the most flexibility on your install date. Estimates are free any time of year.
