Storm and Hail Damage Roof Repair in Macomb County

Michigan storms can do real damage in a few minutes: wind that lifts and tears shingles, hail that bruises them, and falling limbs that punch through the deck. Some of that damage is obvious. A lot of it is not visible from the ground and does not leak until months later.

Rock Solid Exteriors is a family-owned roofing company in Clinton Township that has served Southeast Michigan since 1997. After a storm, we inspect and photo-document storm and hail damage, explain honestly whether it looks worth a claim, and if you file, we document the damage and meet your adjuster at the house. The inspection is free. Call (844) 757-6543 or schedule a free roof inspection.

If a storm has opened up your roof, we can tarp it to keep water out until repairs or a claim inspection can happen. Call (844) 757-6543.

Signs Your Roof May Have Storm Damage

Please do not climb onto the roof yourself. From the ground, the yard and the attic, watch for:

Wind damage

  • Missing shingles, or shingles lying in the yard
  • Shingles that are lifted, flipped up or creased across the top (a sign the seal was broken even if the shingle is still there)
  • Bent or loose drip edge, flashing or roof vents
  • Exposed underlayment or bare wood

Hail damage

  • Dents in gutters, downspouts, metal vents or window wraps (an easy clue that hail was large enough to matter)
  • Dark spots on shingles where granules were knocked off
  • Piles of granules at downspout outlets after the storm
  • Dings or cracks in siding, window screens or outdoor fixtures

Impact and water damage

  • Limbs or trees on the roof
  • New water stains on ceilings or around light fixtures
  • Damp insulation or dripping in the attic

Hail and wind damage do not always cause an immediate leak. A bruised shingle can lose its protection and start leaking a season or two later, which is why a close inspection soon after the storm matters.

What to Do Right After a Storm

  1. Stay safe. Keep away from downed wires and do not go on the roof.
  2. Take photos. Photograph damage you can see from the ground, inside the house, and any hail you can safely collect, with the date.
  3. Limit further damage if you safely can. Move belongings away from leaks and catch dripping water. Keep receipts for anything you buy.
  4. Check your policy. Look at your deductible and any deadline your insurer has for reporting damage.
  5. Get a professional inspection. Call us for a free inspection so you know what you are dealing with before you decide on a claim.

How Our Storm Damage Inspection Works

1. Free roof inspection

We inspect the roof surface, flashing, vents, gutters and other exterior surfaces, and check the attic when we can. We look for the specific patterns that wind and hail leave behind, and we also note wear that is simply from age, because insurers treat those differently.

2. Photo documentation

We photograph what we find so you can see it yourself, without having to go up on the roof.

3. An honest recommendation

We tell you plainly whether the damage looks worth a claim. Sometimes the answer is yes. Sometimes the damage is minor and a repair costs less than your deductible, or the problems are age-related and not storm-related. Filing a claim is your decision, and we would rather you make it with good information.

4. Meeting your adjuster

If you file a claim, we document the damage and meet your adjuster at the house, so the roof can be looked at together and the damage we found is pointed out. Your insurance company decides what your policy covers.

5. Repair or replacement

Once you know what is covered, we handle the work, whether that is a roof repair or a full roof replacement. If storm damage also hit your siding, we do siding repair too.

What Usually Is, and Is Not, Covered

Every policy is different, so read yours or ask your agent. In general:

  • Often covered: sudden damage from wind, hail, or a fallen tree or limb, and interior water damage caused by that storm opening.
  • Usually not covered: normal aging and wear, damage from lack of maintenance, and problems that existed before the storm.
  • Deductibles and depreciation: your deductible comes off the settlement, and some policies pay depreciated value on older roofs. Your policy paperwork explains how yours works.

What Affects the Cost of Storm Damage Repairs

  • Extent of the damage. A few replaced shingles and a vent is very different from a full roof replacement.
  • Matching. Older or discontinued shingles can be hard to match, which sometimes affects whether a repair or replacement makes sense.
  • Deck damage. Wood decking that has been punctured or soaked has to be replaced.
  • Interior damage from leaks is a separate scope from the roof itself.
  • Your deductible and policy terms, if you file a claim.

If part of your project is not covered, 0% financing for 60 months is available on approved credit, and veterans receive a 10% discount. See financing.

Materials and Warranties for Your Repaired or New Roof

We install GAF and Owens Corning roofing systems and metal roofing. As a 2026 GAF Certified Plus Roofing Contractor, we can offer the GAF System Plus and GAF Silver Pledge limited warranties on qualifying GAF roofing systems, and as an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor, Owens Corning manufacturer warranty options on qualifying roofs. If you are replacing a storm-damaged roof, it is a good time to consider impact-resistant shingle options; ask us which ones fit your house and budget.

Storm Damage Roofing FAQ

Is the storm damage inspection free?

Yes. The inspection is free and there is no obligation.

Should I call my insurance company or a roofer first?

Many homeowners find it helpful to have the roof inspected first, so they know whether there is real storm damage before starting a claim. Check your policy for any reporting deadline so you do not miss it.

Do you work with my insurance company?

We inspect and photo-document the damage, and if you file a claim we document the damage and meet your adjuster at the house. We do not represent you or negotiate your claim, and your insurer makes the final coverage decision.

My roof isn’t leaking. Can it still have hail damage?

Yes. Hail can knock off granules and weaken shingles without an immediate leak. That damage can shorten the roof’s life and lead to leaks later.

What if the adjuster denies my claim?

Your insurance company decides coverage. If a claim is denied, we will still give you honest repair or replacement options and a written estimate so you can decide what to do.

Can you also fix siding damaged in the same storm?

Yes. We repair and replace siding as well as roofing, so one company can handle both. Point out any other exterior damage during the inspection and we will tell you what we see.

How soon after a storm should I get an inspection?

As soon as it is safe. Damage is easiest to document while it is fresh, and small openings can let water in quickly.
