About this project
This walkway runs the length of a deep, sloped lot on Beach Drive in Orion Township, leading down toward a lakeside home. The photo was taken right after the pour, with the fresh soil still showing along both edges where the forms were pulled.
Long, narrow walks like this one are mostly about prep. The base has to be graded so the slab drains instead of holding water, and the joints have to be close enough together to control where Michigan’s freeze-thaw cycles crack it.
What we did
- Excavated and graded the path down the slope toward the house
- Formed and poured a broom-finished concrete walkway with tooled control joints
- Regraded the soil along both edges after the forms came off
