About this project
A roof replacement on a large brick home on Chicago Boulevard in Detroit, with a hip roof and three front dormers. The job record shows the old roof had three layers of shingles on it, and all three came off before the new roof went on.
Layering new shingles over old ones was common for decades. When a roof has three layers, they all have to come off so the deck can be checked and the new roof is fastened to solid wood instead of old shingles.
What we did
Tore off three layers of old shingles down to the roof deck
Installed a new dark shingle roof across the main roof and the front dormers
Worked around the brick chimney on a large two-and-a-half-story home
