About this project
A back-yard patio on Edgewood Street in St. Clair Shores. The slab follows the brick wall of the house and jogs out around the air-conditioning unit, which is why it’s shaped like an L instead of a plain rectangle.
In a small yard, a patio has to work around what’s already there: the fence line, the basement windows and the mechanicals. The surface is pitched slightly so rain runs away from the foundation, not toward it.
What we did
- Poured a concrete patio along the back of the brick home
- Ran the slab around the air-conditioning unit and the basement window
- Finished it with a light broom texture for footing
